Police Sting Nets Sex Crime Conviction

ST. LOUIS (CN) - A 24-year-old man was sentenced to 6 years in federal prison for trying to buy a child prostitute. David P. Hawkey, of Florissant, Mo., sent an email on July 27, 2009 in response to an Internet ad that placed by undercover officers offering girls for sex, according prosecutors said.

Prosecutors say Hawkey asked the age and price of the girls. He was told there were a 16-year-old and a 14-year-old available, for $80 per half hour apiece, $160 for an hour and $300 for both.

Hawkey said he wanted the younger one, requested nude pictures and indicated he wanted to have sexual intercourse with her. He was arrested after giving cash to an undercover officer.

Hawkey pleaded guilty in December to two felony counts of using interstate facilities to obtain a minor to commit a commercial sex act.

Florissant is 20 northwest of St. Louis.
