A federal court in South Carolina upheld the 20-year prison sentence of former police officer Michael Slager, who pleaded guilty to a federal civil rights charge for shooting Walter Scott, a Black man, after a traffic stop for a broken brake light. Slager shot Scott, who was unarmed and running away from the officer, five times in the back, killing him.
