One Dead, 3 Injured in Shooting at YouTube HQ

A shooter unleashed chaos at YouTube headquarters Tuesday, shooting three people before turning the gun on herself, police said.

SAN BRUNO, Calif. (CN) – A shooter unleashed chaos at YouTube headquarters Tuesday, shooting three people before turning the gun on herself, police said.

An unidentified woman was found dead of an apparent self-inflicted gun wound, according to San Bruno Police Chief Ed Barberini.

Police responded to reports of gunshots just before 1 p.m. When officers arrived at the technology company’s headquarters they were met with a steady stream of people fleeing the building. Other employees hid in closets and barricaded themselves in closed rooms.

“Active shooter at YouTube HQ,” tweeted Vadim Lavrusik, a YouTube employee, at around 1 p.m. “Heard shots and saw people running while at my desk. Now barricaded inside a room with co-workers.”

The wounded were taken to San Francisco General Hospital. A 36-year-old man is listed in critical condition, while the other two – a 27-year-old woman and a 32-year-old woman – are listed in fair and serious condition, respectively, according to a hospital representative.

Police found one of the wounded near the entrance of the building, while the other two fled to adjacent businesses before being transferred to the hospital.

Barberini said he believed the deceased woman was the shooter but couldn’t confirm.

“This is an active event and an active investigation,” the chief said.

About 1,700 people work at the campus.

The relationship between the shooter and the victims, if any exists, is not immediately clear.
