GRANT PARK, Ill. (CN) - An Illinois police chief pleaded guilty to charges of taking bribes to drop prostitution charges in an Urbana court. Federal prosecutors said former Grant Park Police Chief Scott Fitts was involved in the scheme which netted more than $400,000.
Officials say Fitts, 41, hired a woman to pose as a prostitute to lure people into arrest. Fitz then offered to drop the charges if they would pay a fine that was typically $3,500, prosecutors said. Fitz had been Grant Park police chief since 1994. He was indicted in June 2008. Grant Park is 50 miles south of Chicago.
