PlayStation settlement proposal rejected

SAN FRANCISCO — A federal court in California declined to grant preliminary approval of a settlement between Sony and a putative class of PlayStation customers who claim the video game console manufacturer has established an unlawful monopoly over the sale of digital PlayStation games. The motion lacked an estimated recovery range for class members and the settlement proposes consumers would receive PlayStation Network credit, a form of “coupon” compensation that the court disfavors.
