Plastic Surgeon Whacked For $1.5 Million

ST. LOUIS - A plastic surgeon must pay $1.5 million in fines and restitution and was sentenced to probation for performing unnecessary surgeries. Dr. Richard E. Coin pleaded guilty in October to one misdemeanor charge of falsely billing the federal government for work that he didn't perform.

His company, Reconstructive and Microsurgery Associates, also pleaded guilty to one felony count of health care fraud and admitted to additional overbillings. The company will pay a $1.1 million fine and $400,000 restitution to 17 companies. Coin was sentenced to two years probation, 100 hours of community service and a $20,000 fine.
