WASHINGTON (CN) - During repair, maintenance or modification of airplanes, sources for igniting fuel tank explosions may be left unprotected in the tank, according to Federal Aviation Administration Airworthiness Directives regarding Bombardier aircraft.
The fuel tanks are initially protected from the ignition sources, but mechanics may leave them unprotected after work is done. So the FAA is issuing measures for mechanics to follow to check to make sure they have put things back together with original safety features intact.
