ST. CHARLES, Mo. (CN) - Laclede Gas and Ameren Missouri will get back $14 million after a circuit court ruled that a pipeline company overcharged the utilities for natural gas transportation.
Circuit judge Nancy L. Schneider ordered MoGas Pipeline, based in St. Peters, Mo., to pay Laclede $6.6 million plus interest for overcharges between 2005 and 2008. Schneider also ordered MoGas to pay Ameren $7.4 million plus interest for overcharges between 2003 and 2008.
Laclede and Ameren plan to use the money to refund customers through credits on their bill, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported.
In 2008, the Missouri Public Service Commission ordered that MoGas predecessor companies violated tariffs by overcharging Laclede and Ameren and that decision was later upheld by the Western District Court of Appeals in Missouri. In response, Laclede filed its lawsuit in St. Charles County against MoGas in March 2011 and Ameren filed its complaint in Cole County in 2009. Ameren's case was transferred to St. Charles after a Cole County judge recused himself because he was an Ameren customer.
