Pinterest dodges photo copyright class action

SAN JOSE, Calif. — Pinterest won its motion for summary judgment in front of a California federal court, where a photographer brought a putative class action over the use of their copyrighted photos without permission for notifications sent outside of its website. The claims stumbled on a few key grounds: There is no evidence Pinterest was ever put on notice for the alleged infringement, and even if it were notified, the company proved it did not gain any real financial benefit from the use of the photos.
