Photographer Sues Sean Penn

LOS ANGELES (CN) - A photographer has hit Sean Penn with a lawsuit, claiming the Oscar-winner attacked him for filming him on a public street last October.

Jordan Dawes claims in Los Angeles Superior Court that he was sitting in his car outside a market in the Los Angeles suburb of Brentwood when Penn arrived. He says he started using a telephoto lens, at a "significant distance" from the actor, for use in a documentary "relating to the activities of paparazzi."

He says Penn went to his truck, then "redirected his path and walked down the street toward Dawes," where he began "kicking and punching" Dawes and saying, "the next time I see you, you will be in a box," the lawsuit states.

Dawes seeks unspecified damages for assault, battery and negligent infliction of emotional distress.

He is represented by Donald Karpel with Karpel & Miller.
