MIAMI (CN) - Alternatel and other phone-card companies target immigrants by misrepresenting the minutes available on their prepaid calling cards, and concealing the fees they take that reduce those minutes, the FTC claims in Federal Court.
Alternatel is based in Pembroke Pines, Fla.
The FTC also sued these defendants: GFG Enterprises aka Mystic Prepaid, of Hoboken, N.J.; Voice Prepaid, Telecom Express, and Voice Distributors, all of Medford, Mass.; Lucas Friedlander, a director of those corporations and COO of Mystic Prepaid; Moses Greenfield, half-owner of Alternatel and director of the other corporations; Nickolas Gulakos, owner of Voice Prepaid, half-owner of Alternatel and a director of Mystic Prepaid; and Frank Wendorff, CEO of Alternatel and a director of Mystic Prepaid and Voice Prepaid.
