Phone Number Portability, Pipeline Safety,|Farming Disaster Money & More

WASHINGTON (CN) - The Federal Communications Commission requests comment on what further steps the agency should take to improve the process of changing telecommunications providers, including number portability. The agency also requests any new ideas that reflect and build upon a new requirement that providers must make the switch within one business day for simple ports.

The Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration plans to revise the data collection parts of the Pipeline Safety Regulations to enhance the PHMSA's ability to: understand, measure, and assess the performance of individual operators and industry as a whole; integrate pipeline safety data to allow a more thorough, rigorous, and comprehensive understanding and assessment of risk; and expand and simplify existing electronic reporting by operators.

The Farm Service Agency and the Commodity Credit Corporation have implemented the general eligibility provisions for all the supplemental agricultural disaster assistance programs authorized by the Food, Conservation, and Energy Act of 2008 and the specific requirements for the Livestock Indemnity Program. The LIP program provides disaster assistance for livestock losses for livestock owners and contract growers that had more livestock deaths than usual due to bad weather this year. Losses must have occurred between Jan. 1, 2008 and Oct. 1, 2011.
