PHILADELPHIA (CN) - The Pennsylvania Supreme Court held that state law allows Penn State University to disclose the salaries and years of service of its employees.
Justice Fitzgerald rejected the claim of the State Employees' Retirement Board that personal salaries are protected by privacy rights. Those rights were extinguished when voluntarily took jobs with a government program managed by a public agency that's legally required to disclose salaries, the court concluded.
Justice Cappy dissented, saying the salary database and service logs are not public records until the employees retire. See ruling.
