Patent Office Chooses ABA Ethics Rules

WASHINGTON (CN) - The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office plans to align its professional responsibility rules with those of most other U.S. jurisdictions. It plans to replace the current Patent and Trademark Office Code of Professional Responsibility with new USPTO Rules of Professional Conduct, which are based on the ABA Model Rules of Professional Conduct.

Changes approved by the ABA House of Delegates in August have not been incorporated into these proposed rules. The USPTO also proposes to revise the existing procedural rules for disciplinary investigations and proceedings.
