Passports for transgender people

BOSTON — The State Department must issue passports to six transgender and nonbinary people consistent with their gender identities after a federal judge ruled that they were likely to prevail on their claim that the Trump administration’s new policy requiring passports to display the sex of the applicant on their original birth certificate is likely unconstitutional and “based on irrational prejudice toward transgender Americans.” However, the judge declined to issue the preliminary injunction nationwide.
