PHOENIX (CN) - E.W. Scripps Co. failed to train the helicopter pilot who caused a July 27, 2007 crash with a KTVK news helicopter, killing everyone aboard both choppers, parents of the dead say in Superior Court.
The parents of KTVK photographer Jim Cox and the parents of his chopper's pilot, Scott Bowerbank, sued Scripps and its pilot. They also sued U.S. Helicopters, which leased the aircraft to Scripps.
The Coxes and Bowerbanks says the Scripps (KNXV-TV) pilot, the late Craig Smith, was flying too fast and failed to keep a lookout as six helicopters followed a police chase in Phoenix.
Plaintiffs are represented by Patrick McGroder with Gallagher & Kennedy.
