LOS ANGELES (CN) - A college student died while following his college's instructions, making a video to advertise The Master's College and Seminary, his parents claim in court.
Mingyu "Paul" Sang died when a hole dug on a beach collapsed on him, as the Christian college made a video to promote itself online, Sang's parents claim in Superior Court.
His mother, Guem Cho, and father, Young Sam, sued The Master's College and Seminary, Chapel Media, and David Tuck, who they claim was in charge of making the video when their son died on Aug. 22, 2012.
The defendants were filming a video to promote the school on the Internet, the parents say. The defendants told Paul Sang to dig a hole and then film other students from inside it, which he did. But the weight of the students standing around the hole made it collapse, smothering and killing him, the parents claim.
"(W)idespread panic ensued, but defendants had no proper emergency personnel in place," the parents say in the complaint.
The parents seek damages for wrongful death. They are represented by Otto Haselhoff, of Santa Monica.
