Owner Of Sammy Davis Books Claims| Dude Is Trying To Cut A Bogus Film Deal

DALLAS (CN) - Boyar Investmentsclaims it owns the rights to the books "Yes I Can" and "Why Me?", written by Sammy Davis Jr. and Burt and Jane Boyar, and that David Permut and Permut Presentations paid for rights for nine months to seek a film deal. They claim the time expired but Permut continues to represent himself, falsely, as authorized to negotiate for film rights.

Boyar and co-plaintiff Altovise Davis claim Permut's illicit acts put a cloud on the title to the works and make it harder to negotiate an authentic deal. They say Permut, of Los Angeles, paid $2,500 for nine months rights with an option for another year for $37,500. They say he never paid the extra money but went right on misrepresenting himself as entitled to cut a deal for the book.

They demand punitive damages for tortious interference and breach of contract, and an injunction that, among other things, orders Permut to contact everyone he's dealt with and tell them how it is. Boyar is represented in Dallas County Court by Michael Lynn. See complaint.
