CLEVELAND (CN) - Cleveland police officers chasing another man smashed into a second man's car, overturning it and injuring the driver, and officers from three cities then handcuffed the injured man and beat him with clubs and flashlights, saying, "I hope you die," in the mistaken belief that he was the guy they were chasing, Namir Spratt claims in Cuyahoga County Court.

Spratt demands punitive damages from the Cities of Cleveland, Warrensville Heights and North Randall, and the John Doe officers who allegedly beat him senseless. He says that two black officers saw what was happening, and eventually protected him from the other officers.

Spratt is represented by George Forbes.
