CLAYTON, Mo. (CN) - An attorney forgot he had a gun in his briefcase as he entered the St. Louis County courthouse this week, Clayton Police Chief Tom Byrne said.
This incident happened as state lawmakers are considering legislation that would exempt attorney from security measures at that courthouse.
The attorney was taken to the Clayton police station, where it was verified that he had a concealed carry permit. By law, all the officers could do was to ask the attorney to leave, which he did.
The attorney's name was not released, since no charges were filed.
Two state lawmakers, both attorneys, have introduced a bill that would allow attorneys to bypass security in the St. Louis County courthouse only.
They claimthe metal detectors are too sensitive and that attorneys are "less of a security risk" than others.
