Only Certified Doctors to Do Bus Driver Physicals

WASHINGTON (CN) - The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration is requiring that all medical examiners conducting physicals for interstate commercial motor vehicle drivers be certified by May 2014.

The FMCSA is establishing a national registry of doctors who have been certified as having been trained and tested in the physical qualifications of interstate commercial motor vehicle drivers, such as truck drivers and bus drivers.

The doctors should then be able to tell effectively whether a CMV driver's medical fitness for duty meets FMCSA's standards.
