Online Gambling Operators Plead Guilty

ST. LOUIS (CN) - Two relatives and a personal assistant of the founder of BetOnSports pleaded guilty to federal charges and agreed to forfeit millions in gambling profits. Neil Scott Kaplan, 43, Lori Beth Kaplan-Multz, 48 and Penelope Ann Tucker, 64, pleaded guilty to felony racketeering conspiracy and agreed to turn over money held in a Swiss Bank account.

Prosecutors say the money was obtained through illegal gambling.

Kaplan and Kaplan-Multz also pleaded guilty to an additional conspiracy charge.

The Kaplans are brother and sister of Gary Kaplan, the founder of BetOnSports.

A federal grand jury handed down an indictment in 2006, accusing BetOnSports executives of operating what was once the world's largest illegal online gambling operation, which made more than $1 billion a year.

Gary Kaplan is awaiting trial. Two other defendants are at large, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
