LOS ANGELES (CN) - The online dating service eHarmony charges $20 to $60 a month to play matchmaker but fails to disclose that many of the matches they create are with people who do not subscribe to the service and may not want to be matched, a class action claims in Superior Court.
Named plaintiff Melissa Withers claims that after her membership expired she received 83 queries from men in 16 days. eHarmony advertises that its dating site is different from others because members do not seek each other out; eHarmony selects which subscribers would be good matches, according to the complaint.
Withers claims that in light of her own experience, it's likely that many of the matches for which eHarmony charges have been and will be with people who are not interested.
She seeks disgorgement, repayment of fees, punitive damages and an injunction. She is represented by Michael McLachlan.
