LOS ANGELES (CN) - Novaris Entertainment claims Ghost House Pictures Holdings and Horror Entertainment violated copyright on its screenplay, "Roadkill Zoo," in which "possessed road kill come back to life and seek revenge on those who run them over."
"The screenplay tells the story of four (4) college students whose road trip to Mardi Gras takes a serious detour when they try to save time and bypass Baton Rouge on a seldom traveled road," the complaint states. "After they accidentally run over an unsuspecting raccoon the road trip turns deadly when they discover that the surrounding swamps are filled with the voodoo cursed vengeful undead animal roadkill."
Novaris turned "Roadkill Zoo" into a 6-part comic book series and graphic novel. Now, it claims, Ghost House is planning to release a 6-part Web series called "Zombie Roadkill," and held a "world premiere" of the allegedly offending work in Austin, in September, "going all out, providing everything from a red carpet with full case and crew to a taco truck serving 'roadkill' tacos. ... According to various releases, the premiere was a tremendous success."
Novaris demands actual and statutory damages for copyright infringement, an accounting and disgorgement. It is represented in Federal Court by Todd Chvat with Beitchman & Zekian.
