‘One of the worst cases of exploitation’

HOUSTON — A Texas appeals court, ruling in what one attorney called “one of the worst cases of exploitation she had ever seen,” upheld the trial court’s decision to appoint a guardian to have full control of a woman’s estate, including her finances and legal dealings. The woman had major cognitive issues, lost millions of dollars through financial exploitation, was unduly influenced by two attorneys and was scammed by a purported heart surgeon she believed was her boyfriend.
