PHOENIX (CN) - Yuma police Det. Jeff Ruby shot two elderly grandparents with a shotgun as they lay in bed sleeping, the couple claims in Federal Court. The couple - 63 and 72 - says Ruby had "a history of misconduct while a military police officer" the city should have known it.
The grandma says she's had three operations on her shattered ankle, suffered kidney failure, excruciating pain, 6 weeks hospitalization and more than $150,000 in medical bills. She is confined to a wheelchair and can walk only a few steps at a time. They say the police SWAT team was executing a search for property when they shot the old folks in their sleep.
