Oil Men Held by Nigerians Sue Chevron U.S.A.

SAN FRANCISCO (CN) – Chevron ignored threats from Nigerian guerrillas, allowing three oil workers to be kidnapped and held hostage for more than a month under constant threats of death, the men say in Federal Court. The men were abducted by members of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta on April 30, 2007, and held for five weeks.

Plaintiffs say Chevron refused a request to increase security on the tanker the day before the attack.
John Stapleton, Ignazio Gugliotta and Jurica Ruiz, who were kidnapped, and David Jeffers, who also worked on the tanker from which they were abducted, the Oloibiri, are represented by Tad Shapiro of Santa Rosa.
