DAYTON, OHIO (CN) - The State of Ohio has sued the Colin Powell Leadership Academy and its directors, demanding that the charter school be shut down because of "its persistent failure to come even close to meeting (state) standards."
The Dayton charter school, founded in 2000, has received millions of tax dollars but "has met onlyone of the 61 applicable indicators of school performance during its six years of operation," the state says. It asks the Montgomery County Court to restrain the school from receiving any more tax money and to transfer its students to other schools. Colin Powell has nothing to do with the school's operations. See complaint.
