CLAYTON, Mo. (CN) - A police dog couldn't tell the good guys from the bad, a lawsuit claims in St. Louis County Court. Harry Dilworth, a Ferguson police officer, says a police dog from Berkeley attacked him while the two departments worked together to arrest several criminal suspects on July 31, 2007.
During a foot chase, Berkeley Police Officer Gary Eaves negligently released the dog behind Dilworth, the suit states. Dilworth claims the dog bit his arms and hands once it caught up with him. Dilworth says Eaves and the City of Berkeley failed to maintain control of the dog, prematurely released the dog and failed to recall the dog safely.
Dilworth needed surgery to repair the damages to his arms and hands. He is seeking damages and is represented by K. Jasman Lutz of St. Louis. Berkeley and Ferguson are neighboring cities, 15 miles northwest of St. Louis.
