Off-Roaders Want Dunes Reopened For Them

SAN DIEGO (CN) - Four off-roaders' groups want 49,300 acres of Imperial Sand Dunes Recreation Area reopened to motor vehicles. They claim the Fish and Wildlife Service has not responded to their petition to remove the Peirson's milk vetch from the Endangered Species list.

The American Sand Association, the Off-Road Business Association and other off-roaders and bikers say the Department of the Interior and Fish and Wildlife Service have not responded to their petition for more than a year. The defendants closed the dunes to motor vehicles to protect the plant.
