ATLANTA - Though the U.S. government already exempts several Catholic archdioceses in Georgia from compliance with the so-called contraceptive mandate, a federal judge barred it from enforcing the requirement against two nonprofits.

Catholic Education of North Georgia Inc. executes the Atlanta Archdiocese's educational mission through five independent Catholic schools in the region, which educate nearly 12,000 students and employ more than 4,800 teachers and administrators.

Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Atlanta Inc. provides social services, including immigration counseling, financial literacy education and a pregnancy-support program.
