WASHINGTON (CN) - Stating that the Federal Government "like households and businesses across the country" needs "to make tough choices about how to spend our funds," President Obama ordered the heads of all executive departments and agencies to suspend bonuses to all politically appointed federal employees.
Obama also proposed a salary freeze for all senior political appointees in his Fiscal Year 2011 budget, although a salary freeze requires legislative action.
The suspension of bonuses and supplemental cash incentives to senior political appointees and the proposed salary freeze extends the same austerity measures Obama applied to the White House staff when he took office.
