Obama Creates Trade Enforcement Center

WASHINGTON (CN) - To coordinate cross-agency enforcement of U.S. trade rights, President Barack Obama announced the creation of the Interagency Trade Enforcement Center within the office of the U.S. Trade Representative.

In an executive order announcing the new center, Obama said that "Robust monitoring and enforcement of U.S. rights under international trade agreements, and enforcement of domestic trade laws, are crucial to expanding exports."

Expansion of U.S. exports has been a major goal of the Obama administration.

The center will be responsible for coordinating enforcement of trade rights for all executive agencies and departments. Part of its mission will be to reach out to businesses to identify areas where U.S. trade rights have been violated.
