Oakland Raiders Cornerback Charged With Assault

Oakland Raiders cornerback Sean Smith has been charged with assaulting his sister’s boyfriend in Old Town Pasadena, prosecutors said Thursday, a charge that could send him to prison for seven years.

LOS ANGELES (CN) — Oakland Raiders cornerback Sean Smith has been charged with assaulting his sister’s boyfriend in Old Town Pasadena, prosecutors said Thursday, a charge that could send him to prison for seven years.

According to an Aug. 16 felony complaint for an arrest warrant, Smith assaulted Christopher Wood in July. Smith beat and then stomped on Wood's head near the corner of Arroyo Parkway and Colorado Boulevard during the early hours of July 4, Deputy District Attorney Christopher Stogel said.

The 30-year-old NFL player is charged with one felony count each of assault by means of force likely to produce great bodily injury and battery with serious bodily injury.

Smith is expected to be arraigned at Los Angeles County Superior Court in Pasadena.

If convicted, he faces up to seven years in state prison.

Pasadena law enforcement's investigation into Smith is pending, the DA’s office said.
