An Alameda County Superior Court judge on Wednesday dismissed criminal charges against a former Oakland police officer at the heart of a police sex-abuse scandal, finding insufficient evidence the man had exchanged anything for sex with a prostitute.

OAKLAND, Calif. – An Alameda County Superior Court judge on Wednesday dismissed criminal charges against a former Oakland police officer at the heart of a police sex-abuse scandal, finding insufficient evidence the man had exchanged anything for sex with a prostitute.

The former officer, Brian Bunton, 41, was charged with obstruction of justice and engaging in prostitution stemming from his alleged encounters with the now 20-year-old Richmond, California, woman formerly known as Celeste Guap.
