MANHATTAN (CN) - The former director of a nonprofit group that serves elderly and disabled people in their homes pleaded guilty on Tuesday to stealing $960,000 from the program, federal prosecutors said. O'Dell Holland stole the money while he was director of the Tremont Community Council Home Attendant Program.
Holland, 39, was paid $76,000 a year to direct the program, which contracted with the New York City Human Resources Administration, the U.S. Attorney's Office said.
Prosecutors say Holland had Tremont send him $570,000 in checks and wire transfers, took another $135,000 for renovations at his home and at a Bronx nightclub he owns, and had "hundreds of thousands of dollars" sent to a Manhattan law firm, which sent along $258,000 of it to him or to third parties in his name.
Holland pleaded guilty to embezzlement. He faces up to 10 years in prison at his sentencing, the date for which has not been set.
