MANHATTAN (CN) - Anthony Seminerio, for 31 years an assemblyman from Queens, was sentenced on Thursday to 6 years in federal prison for corruption and ordered to cough up $1 million. Seminerio, 75, declared himself a consultant and took bribes to influence his official acts. In sentencing him, U.S. District Judge Naomi Reice Buchwald said Seminerio "accepted bribes and engaged in extortion as part of a decade-long scheme to use his office - both literally and figuratively - for personal gain and at the expense of the public trust."
