(CN) - The name of Melvyn Irwin Weiss, once the buzz in high-profile corporate law circles, has been expunged from the attorney rolls. A New York court struck his name after he was automatically disbarred for pleading guilty to conspiring to pay off lead plaintiffs in class actions and shareholder derivative complaints.
Weiss, a former partner with Milberg Weiss Bershad & Schulman LLP, was sentenced to 30 months in prison and has agreed to forfeit $9.75 million, his cut of the profits from the conspiracy.
