NY Cavalcade of Corruption Continues

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (CN) - In another step in New York's seemingly endless cavalcade of corruption, a former Fire District commissioner for Rockland County has been charged with mail fraud: having the Fire District do a deal with a creditor to pay off the commissioner's personal debt.

Nathan Rothschild surrendered on Friday, waived federal indictment and was released on bail, the U.S. Attorney's Office said.

If convicted of mail fraud, Rothschild, 54, of Monsey, N.Y., faces up to 20 years in prison and a fine of $250,000.

Rockland County is northwest of Manhattan.
