Nurse Says Catholic Charities Fired Her|For Telling AIDS Patients About Condoms

FORT WORTH (CN) - Catholic Charities, Diocese of Fort Worth fired the registered nurse who led its Health Services Department because she refused to remove educational material about condoms from a publicly funded charity that served people with AIDS and HIV, Barbara Beaty claims in Tarrant County Court.

The Diocese's Lady Hogan Project offers medical and nursing services to people with AIDS and HIV. Before the Diocese changed its policy, Beaty says, nurses provided patients with information about using latex condoms to prevent "the spread of the HIV virus." Beaty says when she told her bosses that she could not ethically withhold such information from her patients or order other nurses to withhold information, Catholic Charities fired her.

She is represented by H. Dustin Fillmore III.
