No sanctions over Red Hill texts

HONOLULU — A federal court in Hawaii declined to sanction the government for losing text messages from two Navy captains regarding water contamination caused by jet fuel that leaked from the military’s Red Hill storage facility. The phones were reset prior to the litigation, so the evidence indicating when the military learned of the contamination was lost, but the government has taken steps to preserve the messages by recovering them from other parties.
