CLAYTON, Mo. (CN) - A St. Louis County jail employee found $55,000 in cash hidden in a prisoner booking area restroom. Officials say they don't know whose money it is, why it was there or what happens next.
Police have interviewed inmates, thinking that a suspect may have hidden it before being thoroughly searched, but nobody has admitted to knowing anything about it. Officials have deposited the money in a bank while they look for a link to a holdup or robbery. The Clayton city attorney is researching what to do with the money if it is not claimed.
