No habeas for El Chapo

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — A federal court in New York denied El Chapo’s petition for habeas corpus relief, according to which he does not have access to his assets and is not in communication with one of his several appeals lawyers. The drug kingpin’s trial team did not fail him in failing to negotiate a plea agreement, which El Chapo did not want negotiated in the first place, and there is evidence that one of his appellate lawyers in fact helped him file the pro se petitions before the court.
