ST. CHARLES, Mo. (CN) - A woman has been found not guilty of cyber harassment in the first trial under a new state law. The 41-year-old woman was accused of posting a teen-age girl's personal information and photos on Craigslist in its casual encounters section.
Prosecutors claimed Elizabeth Thrasher, 41, posted personal information about a then-17-year-old girl, the daughter of the girlfriend of Thrasher's ex-husband.
Thrasher's attorney argued that she was standing up for her own daughters, and had used information that was already available on the Internet.
A St. Charles County jury found Thrasher not guilty.
The cyber harassment law, a felony, was passed in response to the highly -publicized 2006 death of 13-year-old Megan Meier, who hanged herself after being harassed on MySpace.
Thrasher's trial occurred just miles from Meier's former house in Dardenne Prairie.
