Nigerian Scammer Headed to Slammer

LOS ANGELES (CN) - A Nigerian man faces up to 30 years in federal prison for six felony counts of arranging sham marriages to get Nigerians permanent residency in the United States.

A federal jury convicted Alake "Terry" Ilegbameh, 46, of Baldwin Hills, of six felony counts of immigration conspiracy.

He will be sentenced on Feb. 24, 2014.

Ilegbameh offered the U.S. citizens $1,000 or more for the sham marriages, the U.S. Attorney's Office said. He also instructed his "clients" on how to make the marriages appear legitimate.
