LAS VEGAS (CN) - Former World Boxing heavyweight champion Samuel Peter says a promoter stiffed him out of $400,000 after he lost his title to fellow boxer Vitali Klitschko in 2008.
Peter, a.k.a. "The Nigerian Nightmare," says in Clark County Court that he signed a $4 million agreement with Duva Boxing in May 2008 to defend his title against Klitschko.
He says he also was to receive 10 round trip airline tickets, a hotel room suite, nine hotel rooms, three meals a day for 10 people for the 10 days leading up to the fight, 12 first class tickets and limousine service.
Peter lost the Oct. 11, 2008 fight.
He says defendants then failed to pay the entire $4 million, and instead withheld $400,000 in bogus deductions, including $50,000 on an alleged advance and $54,000 in unauthorized training expenses, among other things.
Also named as defendants are Don King Productions and Dino Duva.
Peter seeks damages of at least $2 million, plus the additional $400,000 he says was illegally withheld. He is represented by Theodore Parker with Parker Nelson.
