NHL Star To Pay $9.5 Million For Fatal Crash

CLAYTON, Mo. (CN) - Former St. Louis Blue hockey star Rob Ramage will pay $9.5 million to the family of Keith Magnuson, a St. Louis County jury decided in a wrongful death suit. Ramage, 48, was drunk on Dec. 15, 2003 when a car he was driving had a head-on crash in Toronto, killing Magnuson, his passenger, police say.

Magnuson, 56, was a Chicago business executive and former Chicago Blackhawks player and head coach. The verdict was against Ramage and National Car Rentals in Canada, from whom Ramage rented the vehicle involved in the crash. A jury convicted Ramage of impaired driving causing death and four other charges. He faces up to 15 years in prison at his Jan. 17 sentencing.
