Newspaper Screwed Up, Man Says

TAUNTON, Mass. (CN) - A father of three, "R.D.," claims the Taunton Daily Gazette called him seeking comment on a sex offender who lived across the street, and he agreed to talk on condition he not be identified. Then, he says, the paper published a photo of someone else, identifying him as R.D., "level-three sex offender," and printed R.D.'s home address.

The man demands punitive damages for defamation and emotional distress. He also sued the Gazette's parent company, the Journal Register East, in Bristol County Court. He is represented by John Landry III of Braintree.
