Newspaper Chain Files |for Bankruptcy in Florida

TAMPA (CN) - Creative Loafing, a publishing chain whose properties include the Chicago Reader and the Washington, D.C. City Paper, has filed for bankruptcy, listing more than $10 million in debts.

The filing appears to be related to a payment dispute with Atalaya Funding and BIA Digital Partners, which loaned the chain $30 million to pay down debt and to buy the City Paper and the Reader last year.

Creative Loafing also owns eponymous papers in Charlotte and Tampa. The company said the bankruptcy filing would not prevent its newspapers from coming out.
