New York City Sued Over Prisons

BROOKLYN (CN) - A man who spent 25 years in prison for a murder he didn't commit has hit New York City with a federal lawsuit.

Derrick Deacon says he had nothing to do with the shooting death of 16-year-old Anthony Wynn, but was convicted of murder in 1989. A jury took only 9 minutes to acquit him on Nov. 18, 2013, he said.

Without seeking specific damages, Deacon says detectives botched the murder investigation, then shifted their focus on setting him to take the fall.

He says cops coerced a woman to testify against him, but at a second trial, that witness recanted and said Deacon was not the man she had seen fleeing the scene after the shooting.
